Kids for Democracy classes are designed to teach civic education in an approachable and fun way. My hope is that they promote strong engagement with the material, allowing elementary aged students from various backgrounds and communities to gain basic knowledge of civics and our system of government.
I’m glad you are here! There is so much to learn about civics and our system of government, but it doesn’t have to be intimidating. At Kids for Democracy, we believe that Democracy starts with you(th)! That is why I have designed programs to bring civic education to students in an approachable and fun way.
Hi, my name is Kayla. I’m 16 years old and I’m a Junior at Scarsdale High School. I’m fascinated by courses and extracurricular activities that focus on civics, government, politics and history. I strongly believe that learning about and participating in civic activities is critical for all Americans, particularly people of my age and younger who do not yet have, or are just starting to gain, a voice in our society. That is why starting in 2024, I began teaching civics classes to kids in underserved communities. My goal was to find a relatable, approachable and fun way to give back to my community through the power of civic education. Kids for Democracy has turned that goal into a reality! Democracy relies on voices. Democracy starts with you(th)!

I believe that a ‘kids teaching kids’ approach works best when students can interact directly with hands-on projects and in an informal classroom setting.
Prior locations include:
- Coachman Family Center, White Plains, NY a 100-unit homeless shelter focused on families in need
- Kids Helping Kids, Stamford, CT-based non-profit
